St Mary's School Music Project
Ms. Whelan's 4th class took part in a series of classical music workshops this term. they listened to Frank's Violin concerto and then spent time responding to the music through poetry, rhythm and dance. They were engaged in a wonderful way which gave them all a chance to show their individual personalities in a performance in the Droichead Arts Centre on Thursday 5th November. These photos give us an idea of how they shone!

Healthy eating in SMPPS
In conjunction with our school’s healthy eating policy SMPPS will be focusing on healthy lunches over the next few weeks.
Pupils from 4th class will be visiting each class daily. They will be awarding stickers and points to pupils who have healthy lunches and who have completed Healthy Eating Challenges. This week’s Healthy Eating Challenge is to bring in at least two pieces of fruit for lunch. Good luck everyone!
As you are aware, healthy eating habits start early in childhood and can last a lifetime. Lunchtime provides one third of a child’s daily nutrition requirements so where better to start!
Here is a link to our Healthy Eating Policy .
Here are some ideas for healthy lunches.
We are also taking part in Operation Transformations 10 @ 10. Each day pupils throughout the school are taking part in 10 minutes of exercises in the classroom. Here is a link to the exercise videos which can be watched at home.

INTEL Mini Scientist Judging Day
We are so proud of all our 5th Class pupils and teachers who put on a great Science Exhibition today for the Intel Judges. The projects were so impressive, such hard work and creativity went into each one. The future is bright in the hands of these Mini Scientists.
Each of the projects included visual displays, digital projects books and practical experiments based on a scientific area aligned with the national primary science curriculum.
The judges chose Mr Herron's Scientists to go through to the regional finals. Their project 'How clean is our classroom?' explored germs. The children struggled to find germs in the room because our cleaners do such a great job!
Well done to all!

"Erasmus & Project Launch"
We are delighted to announce that our school’s application for European Union Erasmus+ funding has been approved. Our project ‘Irish Language Learning Using CLIL’ aims to equip teachers with the skills to implement new language teaching methodologies. During the summer, teachers will attend courses in Greece, Italy and Malta where they will upskill in language teaching methodologies. Then, a short period of job shadowing will take place in our partner school Salesianos del Pilar, a bilingual school in Madrid. On return, teachers will disseminate the knowledge and skills gained to peers, parents and other interested parties. Subsequently a detailed programme of learning opportunities for students will be run in the 2018/19 calendar year. This will include PE, art and SESE lessons through the medium of Irish, as well as Seachtain na Gaeilge activities and the purchase of Irish resources. We will keep you posted on developments through updates on the school website.

Thanks to everyone for supporting our Scoot Around the School event today (14/03/18), which was organised to mark National Scoot to School Week. It was lovely to welcome pupils from the Junior Building to the Senior Yard earlier today. In total we had 82 pupils on scooters ranging in age from Junior Infants - 6th Class :-) As you can hear in the voices in the video, there was great excitement! Enjoy! M Redden |

SMPPS BUG HOTEL NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
In a building project that took much less time (and money!) than the construction of the new school extension, the SMPPS Bug Hotel is now officially open!
If you find any bugs at home why not treat them to an exclusive break in our 5 star hotel! There are vacancies all year round and our prices will not be beaten! Thank you to Conall Kelly's (Junior Infants) grandad Pat who built the "hotel" for us and well done to Zoe, Tori, Alesia and Caoimhe who painted it (and themselves!). |

On Friday 24th November we had the great pleasure of a visit from Zoe Conway and John Mc Taggart to our school. They arrived at 2;00pm and gave a concert in the new GP room. All the 4th and 6th classes were there to listen and clap along.
Zoe has been playing fiddle since the age of 8 and John has been playing guitar from the age of 9 and they travel the world playing Irish traditional music in schools and communities.
They treated us to Irish,Jazz and Indian music and even threw in a few Christmas carols. By the end of the show we were all singing along merrily.
Last weekend Drogheda celebrated a festival of Irish traditional music and there was plenty of events going on to to get us all in the mood for the up coming Fleadh. You can check out details at http://www.droichead.com.
Anyone looking for more information about the musicians who played today can check out zoeandjohn.com.

The children really enjoyed this workshop and hopefully some will now join Greenhills Bowls Club.
If your child (or you yourself!) would be interested in joining Greenhills Bowls Club you can contact Tom on 087-7799748 or find them on Facebook.
