3rd CLASS
|
Well done to both the boys' and girls' 3rd Class Gaelic teams who have to date completed 2 of their 5 matches. 3rd class compete in a non-competive (no winners or losers) tournament once a month and already their skills are improving. The hope is that all of them will go on and play with the senior school teams in the future.
The boys team have played Stamullen N.S and Gaelscoil an Bhradáin Feasa while the girls team have also played Gaelscoil an Bhradáin Feasa and Le Chéile N.S. Special mention must go to Reehan Rashid who made his debut for the school with great assistance from all his teammates and his SNA Sharon. |
4th Class Compete at FAI Futsal Tournament
Well done to the 4th class students who recently competed in the FAI Futsal Tournament in Oriel Park, Dundalk.
Both the boys' and the girls' teams competed brilliantly and their behaviour on and off the field was imppecable which was the most important thing. There were brilliant performances all round but special mention must go to Peter Lambe who top scored in the tournament with 27 goals. Yes 27!! Thank you to Mr. Hanlon for preparing both teams. |
SMPPS TAKE TOM CONNOLLY MEMORIAL CUP AT GARDA SPORTS DAY!
Well done to those chosen to represent the school in the annual Tom Connolly Memorial Sports Day. Tom was Drogheda's first and very popular community garda and gave great service particularly to young people in the town. The event was set up in his memory and this year was the biggest one yet with over 500 children taking part from 16 schools.
It was a fruitful day for the school also with great individual performances and a wonderful team effort leading to SMPPS being crowned Tom Connolly Memorial Cup Champions for 2017! As well as showing great character and sportsmanship on the track they also displayed brilliant behaviour off it and were a credit to the school.
The school would like to commend the local guards for their effort in setting up such a brilliant local event. We look forward to competing for many years to come.

CORN ORIEL SUCCESS FOR GIRLS'
GAELIC TEAM
St Mary’s vs Mell
This year St.Mary’s Girls GAA team had changed dramatically. Most of the girls last year were from 6th class and there were only four girls left for this year. Mr. Hanlon, the girl's team coach ran many trials and came out with an extremely strong team. On Thursday the girls were brought to their first three matches. They played Mell in their first match. At the start, the match was very tight and the girls had to really dig deep and defend all they could. There was constant scoring from both sides of the pitch but by half time St.Mary’s had it just in the bag. In the second half, it was much the same but the girls battled very hard and got the ball in all areas of the net. Although Mell never gave up. Mell battled very hard and had some great experienced players from the Plunketts. When the final whistle blew St. Mary’s got a total of five goals and two points and Mell got three points.
St. Mary’s vs St. Paul’s
At this point, the girls were very happy with the score from the other match but they knew they had to keep going. They played St. Paul's in their second match. From the start, the girls put on a performance like no other. From the back line to the full forwards it was truly magical to watch but St. Paul’s weren’t having that. St. Paul’s defended amazingly and took numerous of shots that didn’t go as planned as they would have liked too. Meanwhile, St.Marys forwards and midfielders were working together to put the ball in the back of the net. St.Pauls ended with a great score of two goals and two points although once again the girls from St.Mary’s just stole it away from them with a score of twelve goals and two points.
St. Mary’s vs Aston Village.
Right at that moment, the girls wanted to get three out of three. In order to do this, they would have to put on a hell of a performance against Aston Village. The girls from Aston Village were competing in this competition for the first time. They really wanted to win so they played hard on St.Mary’s. They had a good few fast and skillful players put St.Mary’s put them to the test. The girls kept tackling, scoring and marking straight to the end. St.Mary’s really wanted to get these girls out of the way. In the end St. Mary’s won with a total of five goals and three points although Aston Village did an incredible job by getting a goal. We would like to wish Aston Village the best of look in their matches and we look forward to meeting them again.
Player of the Tournament
In my opinion, Sophie Everitt won player of the tournament. She got this award for her incredible shooting.
We would like to thank everyone who participated, Wolfe Tones G.F.C for hosting this event and all the coaches for helping the girls in their training.
Thank you for reading,
Aimee Crowley & Aoife Horan, Captains of the GAA team.

Reilly Rocks CrokerThe summer was a memorable time for Daniel Reilly (Class of 2016). As well as graduating from SMPPS, Daniel represented Louth in the INTO Go Games played at half time in the All Ireland Semi-final.
Daniel was selected by Louth Cumann na mBunscol following skills trials held in Darver earlier in the year. On the day he played in the Dublin colours against a team representing Kerry. We look forward to seeing Daniel again on the big stage in Croke Park representing his county for real in the future!! |
